| Visual 2.4 has many new features to make you more productive and is now available for download at www.VisualLightingSoftware.com. A comprehensive list of new features, including demonstration videos, is also available online from the Visual 2.4 news page at www.VisualLightingSoftware.com/News/2_4.
Below is an overview of new features and improvements in Visual 2.4. |
Support for AutoCAD 2004/2005
Visual 2.4 imports and exports AutoCAD 2004/2005 files. Additionally, Visual 2.4 allows you to choose which layers to export, such as contour lines, templates, solids, etc. Components added in your Visual lighting design can easily be merged with original CAD file.
Power density calculations
Power Density Zones calculate lighting power density over user-defined areas. This feature addresses the challenge of creating lighting designs that are restricted by power allowances. Power Density Zones can perform ASHRAE 90.1 Building Area Method and Space-by-Space Method calculations.
Visual 2.4 offers a new calculation zone type called LEED Trespass, which performs line-of-sight calculations required by LEED Sustainable Sites Credit 8. Acuity Brands Lighting recognizes that LEED Credit 8 is under revision and is committed to supporting Visual users through any future changes.
Display photometric distributions
Photometric Webs help you orient luminaires by displaying graphical representations of photometric distributions in the Design Environment. Photometric Webs are especially useful for floodlighting and wallwash designs.
Interface support for new users
Acknowledging the challenge mouse commands present to new and occasional users of Visual, a small Instructions panel now floats on top of Visual’s Design Environment to tell you when and how to click. This feature is useful as a refresher on mouse commands or as a training tool for fellow employees.
Masking and Statistical Zone
Visual 2.4 includes new methods to mask calculation points and generate statistical zones. Now you can mask using a rectangle, polygon, or surface or you can choose to mask one point at a time. Additionally, you can generate a statistical zone using a rectangle, polygon or surface.
- The IESNA Illuminance Selection Tool has been updated to reflect the IESNA Handbook 9th Edition
- The Light Loss Factor Calculator has been updated to reflect RP-36-03 Recommended Practice for Planned Indoor Lighting Maintenance
- Visual 2.4 now properly prints when the computer display settings are set to Large Fonts
- Single selection mode has been added to decrease design time for intense 3D modeling. Single selection allows you to quickly toggle through selected objects until the desired object is highlighted

Printing to PDF in Visual can be as simple as printing to a regular printer. All you need is a PDF converter. Adobe Acrobat Professional is a well-recognized solution for printing to PDF and may already be available through the IT department at your company. The latest version is Acrobat 6.0 Professional, which you can learn more about on the Adobe web site at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/main.html. There are also several free and inexpensive solutions available on the web. For example, PDF995 offers a PDF printer driver and PDF converter that you can use for free with ad support, or purchase ad-free at a nominal price. To print from Visual using PDF995, first download and install the PDF995 printer driver, then download and install the PDF converter. Once you have both installed, you can then choose PDF995 as your printer in the Print Editor of Visual. More information about PDF995 is available on their web site at http://www.PDF995.com/download.html.

| | Rather than creating a separate account for each Visual license you own, we recommend you keep all your licenses in one account. Keeping all your Visual licenses in one account saves time because you don’t have to remember multiple email addresses and passwords. You can activate your office license, home license, and laptop license with the same login information. |
